5K Prep--Reflecting on the Journey
My last 5k was September 2012. My first born was 11 months old and I had been working out since May and eating 1200-1500 calories a day and running/walking as much as possible for 5 months. I had managed to lose 8lbs or something dumb.
I was 40lbs heavier than I am now, out of shape, not able to run very far for very long and I finished that race in 43 minutes and change
I decided to go back and look at myself...pics of that day. Remember, this is before I realized that carbohydrates and I should really just be acquaintances and not have a relationship. And before I found out that I had PCOS. I remember seeing these pictures after the race and crying. I was stressed out, I had a pain in my jaw and was pretty convinced there was something wrong with me and no matter how hard I tried, I could not lose weight.

So, it wasn't too long after this, maybe 3 months, that I went to an endocrinologist and talked to him about my issues and he told me "sorry, it looks like you just got bad genes". I SWEAR that is what he said.
And I did that low carb/high protein thing for a while, which did change things for me. And then I had a second kid...

Fast forward to now.
This was today for the 5k prep. I ran/walked...just like I had prepped 4.5 years ago. Back then I could barely squeeze out 3 miles in under an hour on a treadmill and did the 2012 5k in 43 minutes. Today I did my practice run/walk in 43 minutes.
As my mom said "You've come a long way, baby!"
And here I am with my TWO kids...5.5 years and 1.5 years old and I look 10 years younger.
I'm not wearing any makeup. I don't take any special pills (unless you count my Plexus ProBio which is an awesome probiotic), I don't use any magical face creams (I sometimes wash with bar soap and don't always remember to put moisturizer on every day). There are no special filters on these pics.
This is what healthy choices looks like on me.
6 days 'til the redemption 5k. I'd like to complete it in under 43 minutes but if I don't, I at least want better pics!!! hahahah!!
