Running
Since the day after Thanksgiving, I've been running.
I needed some ME time. We have a lot going on at the house, there is a lot going on at work and honestly I was starting to freak out and lose myself.
I've been working on changing my mindset about a lot of things and shifting my focus to taking care of me so that I can take care of others. I was becoming increasingly frustrated by the fact that I didn't have a way to unload my frustrations and I also missed running.
Last week, I spoke with my Retrofit coach (that program I'm doing through work) and she gave me some tips on shaking up my run a bit and doing intervals. At first I thought she was a little crazy when she told me to sprint at a 7 on my treadmill. She OBVIOUSLY uses a different treadmill and doesn't understand how FAST a 7 is and how hard it is to run at that pace. Psshh...yea, OK. I'll try it for 30 seconds and hopefully not fall off. After all, it was a major accomplishment to run at 4.8 and 5 when, 3 years ago I was psyched to run at 4.7 after MONTHS of training.
So I tried. One of us was wrong and I'll admit, it was me.
There I was, doing my 5 minute warm up and trying to talk myself into hitting the up arrow on the speed button.."It's just 30 seconds...you've done harder things (childbirth 2 TIMES) for longer (pushed for 2 hours the first time!)!" And I did it, and hopped off to the side while I recovered. Not bad...another 30 seconds...recover...and then I was in a groove and throwing in 90 second recovery walks.
The next day I felt like a stiff and aching old lady. LOL
But I did it again.
And again.
And then I decided to do my regular walk/jog routine and my 4.8 was SO SLOW. It actually felt uncomfortable to run that slowly. What???!!
So I continued through the weekend and I've started to really enjoy running this way. Time goes so quickly, I feel like I'm accomplishing something and my speed and endurance has improved drastically in such a short period of time!!
Tonight, Ian came downstairs in the basement and took a video of me running--he was playing with the slow motion effect on his phone.
I found it to be quite humorous. This is me, running at a 6.5 (but looks like .5), LOL, Baywatch style.
