Fear?

Do you have a bucket list?
I do.  Well, it’s always sort of been in my head and I just recently decided to write it down because it’s been a running list in my head for so long that I started to worry that I’m going to forget something.

My list has things on it like places I want to travel (Kauai and Italy), things I want to learn (make whipped cream from scratch, learn another language—Italian would be helpful!!), things I want to do (learn to dance, see Wicked) and professionally (manager level position, speak at an industry event).   The items have no due date although I would like to complete some of them sooner rather than later.

One particular bucket list item:

Running.  (What? Annie, you run almost every day, how is this bucket list item?)  A 5k. (Ok, you’ve done that) and a 10k (well you have time to train)…

In Disney World.

OH. Yes. That’s different.

Sounds fun, right?  Go to Disney World. Run a 5k on Friday, run a 10k on Saturday, get some cool medals and shirts and head home.

Easy Peasy.

For someone else!!  I’m totally freaking out.  Not sure why.   I haven’t run a 5k since September 2012.  It was a Fall Festival 5k.  In a small town.  With not a lot of people.

I like to be prepared for things. I like to know how things are going to go.  I research places I’m going and things I’m doing because I’m a planner.  I like to know what to expect so I can plan my options if things don’t go as planned.  I call it efficiency—up front planning so I don’t waste time when I get to doing what I set out to do.

And maybe some need to be in control of my situations.

I’m maybe a little Type A. Maybe. A little.

And that is exactly why I am running races in Disney—it’s completely out of my comfort zone.

Sure, I’ll be there with some friends.  And I’ve traveled alone before so none of that worries me.  But the thought of running a 5k and a 10k in Disney, out there on my own running…

In 281 days.
